The Benefits e-commerce shop owners get when they migrate to Shopify Plus vs. Magento Enterprise in the UK
Choosing the right platform can be quite the challenge for every business owner out there and when it turns out that you have made the wrong call things can get a bit complicated. Switching between platforms can be very difficult, and sometimes even impossible, so if you are interested in doing so you need to consider all of the consequences. Luckily for you, business owners have already made that difficult decision for you and have already gone through the process, so today we are going to talk to you about a few things you need to know when you want to migrate to Shopify Plus vs. Magento Enterprise in the UK, so make sure you keep on reading to find out more.
THE PRODUCT ARCHITECTURE WILL BE DIFFERENT
If you choose to switch your platform then we assume you have some pretty big problems with it, but if you are switching to Shopify Plus then we have to warn you that the product architecture will be completely different than what you are used to in Magento Enterprise. The architecture here is actually pretty flat and you won’t get a lot of room when it comes to configuration. You cannot import different files for things like products, categories, attributes and so on, and in fact when it comes to the categories specifically you can’t import them at all. When you are importing your products things will be quite different, however we feel like it is worth all of the other benefits that you will be getting.
NO MORE CATEGORIES
Staying in theme with the product talk, when you decide to migrate from Magento Enterprise to Shopify Plus you will have to know that you no longer have any categories, but you have collections. When you were working with Magento Enterprise in the UK you can have a category, followed by a subcategory followed by a sub sub category and so on, but all of this does not exist on Shopify Plus. Instead here you have collections and we have to say that we have found a lot of people complaining about this online. They say that it is quite frustrating in terms of SEO, navigation and much more. However we actually think that this is a feature that you may end up loving because it will force you to use different tags in a fashion that is more SEO friendly. The benefit to this is that you will really be able to stretch your SEO potential without putting in a lot of work that will only grow as time goes by.
Another thing that is very different when you’re using Shopify is the fact that there is no uRapidflow and that means that it can be really tough if this is something that you’re used to in order to make quick changes and updates to your product data. However we have found that the negative import/export in Shopify Plus is much more useful than the native tool that I am offers, the only thing that you will have to get used to is the fact that you have to import everything separately and you can’t import several columns at a time. This is another instance where, if you have the right tags for your products, you will be able to filter your products in the admin and make changes in bulk rather than having to do things separately, so it’s all about learning how to work with the platform.
Both of these platforms are pretty great, however they work for different types of businesses and that means that the one that you have chosen may not be the right one for your business in the UK.
